Lovely van completely restored over four years. It has diff-locks front and back and a decoupler – so ‘Three Knobs’. The diff locks are in working condition although they do sometimes need to be freed up. The decoupler works silently and is powered by vacuum like the diff-locks. Recently replaced Viscous Couple.
The gear-box was new and has only done less than 500 miles like the engine – a VW 1.9 pd I bought as part of a kit which included the rear carrier with hydraulic engine mounts. The underpan is a bespoke item which serves as protection for the engine and keeps most of the road dirt off.
I have installed the M1 pull-out bed which includes two 3point seat belts but, giving up at that point, I reasoned that a new owner would want to personalise the van with his or her own choice of camper conversion.
This van has had so much spent on it! The engine and gearbox alone were £26,000 and the welding and paintwork and other bits and pieces bring the total cost to well over 30K.
The window rubbers all have the chrome strip – even the opening quarter-lights.
