HI AND WELCOME TO MY AUCTION FOR MY 1984 CORVETTE TARGA COUPE 5.7 LITRE V8 AUTOMATIC. 
AS MENTIONED ABOVE, I WAS SELLING ANOTHER CAR AND WAS VERY HAPPY TO DO A STRAIGHT SWAP WITH THIS CORVETTE, SO HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS BEAUTIFUL SUPERCAR SINCE OCTOBER 2023.
I USE THIS CAR OFTEN AND HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM A 100 MILE DRIVE IN IT TODAY, WHICH I DO EVERY WEEKEND.
I WOULD DEARLY LOVED TO HAVE KEPT IT, AS ITS AN INTRODUCTION MODEL THAT WAS FROM THE FIRST FEW MONTHS OF PRODUCTION IN 1984, BUT MY SITUATION DICTATES, THAT NO MATTER HOW MUCH I LOVE IT – I SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD TO.
CORVETTE C4 INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY:
THERE WERE NO CORVETTES BUILT IN 1983, AS THIS WAS THE NEW C4 (FOURTH GENERATION) CORVETTE THAT WAS FULL OF INNOVATIVE FEATURES, FOR THIS EXCITING NEW MODEL.
THIS C4 MODEL WAS TO REPLACE THE C3 WHICH HAD REMAINED IN PRODUCTION FROM 1968 UNTIL 1982.
THE C4 DIFFERED FROM THE PREVIOUS C3 MODEL – AS IT WAS THE FIRST CORVETTE AIMED AT THE SUPERCAR MARKET, TO CHALLENGE THE LIKES OF PORSCHE, FERRARI, LAMBORGHINI AND ASTON MARTIN, BUT OBVIOUSLY BUILT IN GREATER NUMBERS THAN THOSE.
THIS NEW C4 MODEL HAD AMAZING CORNERING ABILITY, (IT WAS PROVEN TO BE ONE OF THE VERY BEST HANDLING SUPERCARS OF ITS DAY) WITH GREAT BRAKING, HIGH TOP SPEED (142MPH) AND QUICK ACCELERATION (0 TO 60MPH IN ONLY 6.4 SECS – THIS WAS 40 YEARS AGO MIND!😳
I CAN CONFIRM THAT IT PULLS REALLY WELL, SOUNDS AMAZING AND CORNERS LIKE ITS ON RAILS AND IS SO FUN TO STEP OUT THAT REAR END WITH EASY CONTROL, THANKS TO THAT LSD REAR AXLE – SEE VIDEO.😃👍
PRODUCTION STARTED AT THE RECENTLY, ESPECIALLY BUILT CORVETTE PLANT AT BOWLING GREEN KENTUCKY.
ONLY SELECTED TECHNICIANS FROM GM WERE ALLOWED TO WORK, BUILDING THESE CORVETTES AND THEY ONLY BUILT A FEW CARS EACH HOUR – SET AT A DELIBERATELY SLOW PACE.
THE STRUCTURE OF THE CAR USES A UNIFRAME OF 100% FULLY GALVANISED STEEL, WHICH WAS THEN, DIP- PAINTED, AND FORMED USING 142 WELDS IN 97 SECONDS – APPLIED IN PRECISION BY ROBOTS! 
ON TOP OF THIS WAS BOLTED A ONE-PIECE HEAVY DUTY FIBREGLASS BODY. THE BONNET AND INCORPORATED FRONT WINGS, WAS A ONE-PIECE CLAMSHELL HOOD, WHICH WHEN OPENED, REVEALED ALL OF THE FRONT END OF THE CAR, ENGINE, SUSPENSION ALL REVEALED FOR EASY ACCESS.
THIS CAR HAD THE MOST ACUTE WINDSCREEN OF ANY PRODUCTION CAR AT 64.7 DEGREES, WITH UNIQUE TUMBLE FORWARD HEADLIGHTS, WHICH HELPED THE SLIPPERY AERODYNAMIC SHAPE OF THIS NEW CAR, PROVIDING THE CAR WITH A COEFFICIENT DRAG OF ONLY .341
TWIN SPORTS MIRRORS (ELECTRIC) ARE ALSO AERODYNAMIC IN SHAPE, WHILST THE FRAMELESS, GLASS REAR HATCH, FEATURES AN INVISIBLE HINGE AND OPENS ELECTRONICALLY FROM INSIDE THE COCKPIT. THERE IS ALSO A ONE-PIECE REMOVABLE ROOF, THAT HAS NO T-BAR, FOR THAT TRUE CONVERTIBLE FEEL.
THE CAR RETAINED ITS FOUR CIRCULAR REAR LAMPS THAT IS A CORVETTE SIGNATURE, THROUGH TIME.
THE DIGITAL INSTRUMENTATION WAS UNIQUE AT THIS TIME AND DISPLAYS THE SPEED AND ENGINE REVS ON A BAR GRAPH DISPLAY, WHILST ALSO SHOWING THE READOUT DIGITALLY AS WELL. 
THERE WAS AN ON BOARD COMPUTER SHOWING DRIVER INFORMATION SUCH AS: OIL PRESSURE, FUEL RANGE, COOLANT TEMP, AVERAGE AND INSTANT MPG, CHARGING VOLTAGE AND OIL TEMPERATURE.
IN TERMS OF ITS AMAZING HANDLING, THIS NEW CORVETTE FEATURED ONE PIECE FIBREGLASS MONOLEAF  TRANSVERSE SPRINGS, FORGED ALUMINIUM CONTROL ARMS (LIKE RACING CARS) AND STEERING KNUCKLES MADE OF THIS STRONG, LIGHTWEIGHT ALUMINIUM UPPER AND LOWER A ARMS, THAT WAS OFFSET FOR NEUTRAL HANDLING. MASSIVE STABILISER BARS AT 24MM FRONT AND REAR AT 20MM. PRECISE ON-CENTRE STEERING, FEATURING TRANSIENT RESPONSE AND AMAZING CORNERING ABILITY. LOTS OF LIGHTWEIGHT, BUT STRONG PARTS WERE USED THROUGHOUT, INCLUDING ALUMINIUM C BEAMS THAT RUN DOWN BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR, GIVING RIGID BODY STRENGTH TOO. 4 – WHEEL DISC BRAKES ARE USED, WHICH BRAKES THE CAR AT UP TO 1G. 
THE CAR ALSO CAN CORNER AT 1G!!! INCREDIBLE EVEN TODAY!!!
ALUMINIUM BRAKE CALIPERS ARE USED ALONG WITH REAR TRAILING ARMS ALSO IN ALUMINIUM. 
THE ENGINE AND HEARTBEAT OF THIS NEW CORVETTE, IS THE 5.7 LITRE TWIN THROTTLE BODY, CROSSFIRE INJECTION V8. THE ECM IS ABLE TO SENSE HIGH OCTANE FUEL AND WILL ADVANCE THE SPARK TO GIVE INCREASED ENGINE HORSEPOWER. UNDER FULL ACCELERATION, THIS ECM SENSES YOUR THROTTLE ACTION IN UNDER A MILLISECOND AND INSTRUCTS THE THROTTLE BODIES TO GIVE THE OPTIMUM FUEL/ AIR RATIO. 
TOP SPEED OF THIS CAR WAS 142MPH AND A 0-60MPH TIME OF ONLY 6.4 SECONDS (PRETTY IMPRESSIVE IN 1984)
A CLEVER THING IS THE ENGINE’S ABILITY TO SHUT OFF FUEL ON DECELERATION, UNTIL IT REACHES TICKOVER REVS, THUS SAVING FUEL, WHICH COMBINED WITH THE FOUR SPEED OVERDRIVE AUTO, MAKES THE CAR SURPRISINGLY FUEL EFFICIENT, WITH 30MPG EASILY POSSIBLE ON A RUN.

THIS RUNS AND DRIVES REALLY WELL AND FEELS 20 YEARS NEWER. GREAT OIL PRESSURE, RUNS NICE AND COOL, THERE ARE NO NOISES FROM THE ENGINE, LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL OR, GEARBOX AT ALL AND ALL PERFORM AS THEY SHOULD. BRAKES, STEERING, SUSPENSION ETC ALL PERFECT. TYRES ARE GREAT WITH PLENTY OF TREAD LEFT. 
I FITTED A BRAND NEW BATTERY AS SOON AS I BOUGHT IT – SAME DAY! 
THIS CAR FEELS CORRECTLY TIGHT TOO, WITH NO KNOCKS OR, PLAY ANYWHERE FRONT OR, REAR AND CORNERS COMPLETELY LEVEL – DOESNT LEAN AT ALL!!!
THIS CAR WAS ORIGINALLY BRIGHT RED, BUT SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY, ITS BEEN PAINTED PURPLE ( NOT SURE THE NAME, BUT I HAVE A FORD PURPLE VELVET SPRAY TOUCH UP PAINT – AND IT LOOKS THE SAME TO ME)
IT LOOKS GREAT AND LARGELY THE PAINT IS GOOD, HOWEVER THERE IS A SMALL SPLIT IN THE PAINT ONLY AT FRONT OF BONNET (ONLY THE PAINT IS SPLIT – DEFINITELY NOT THE BONNET!!) AND YOU CAN SEE THIS EASILY IN MY PHOTO – 
YOU CAN SPOT SOME RED PAINT IN THE MEETING EDGES OF THE BODY, IF YOU LOOK REAL CLOSE, BUT IM BEING PICKY HERE!
THE ORIGINAL RED LEATHER SEATS AND CARPET / TRIMS, STEERING WHEEL ARE ALL GOOD CONDITION.
THE ELECTRIC SEATS, MIRRORS, TAILGATE RAISE, ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTATION ETC ALL WORK FINE. EVEN THE ELECTRIC AERIAL GOES UP AND DOWN CORRECTLY, WHEN YOU TURN ON THE RADIO!
THE NON ORIGINAL, 17 INCH CHROMED ALLOYS LOOK GOOD AND SHINE UP WELL AND TYRES ARE GREAT.
THE TARGA ROOF PANEL IS EASILY AND QUICKLY REMOVABLE AND STOWS AWAY IN THE BOOT HATCH AREA.
STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ARE GOOD, AS ARE THE DUAL EXHAUSTS, FEATURING DUAL QUAD TAILPIPES, WHICH SOUNDS JUST RIGHT AND NOT TOO LOUD AT ALL.
THIS CAR HAS A CURRENT MOT UNTIL 11TH OF JULY 2024
IT ACHIEVES ITS 40 YEAR HISTORIC CLASS STATUS THIS YEAR, MEANING ITS WILL BE MOT EXEMPT THIS YEAR AND THE ROAD TAX IS FREE TOO, ALONG WITH CHEAP CLASSIC CAR INSURANCE, MEANING ITS CHEAP TO BUY, KEEP AND A SUREFIRE INVESTMENT AS THESE ARE SHOOTING UP IN VALUE AND ARE COLLECTABLE AND NOW APPRECIATED – EVEN IN THE USA.

USUALLY ARRIVED HERE, IN THE UK, WITHIN JUST 3 DAYS!
OBVIOUSLY, ITS NOW 40 YEARS OLD AND AS WITH ALL CLASSICS OF ANY MAKE AT THIS AGE, IT SURELY WILL NEED SOMETHING SMALL DOING, SO HERE ARE THE SMALL, EASY JOBS THAT WILL NEED SORTING AT SOME STAGE (BEAR IN MIND ITS STILL BEING USED VERY OFTEN THOUGH – AS I DID TODAY ON A LONG RUN)

1. SOMEONE HAS FITTED CHEAP CHROME ROCKER COVERS AND THE GASKETS PROBABLY WERE NOT CHANGED, RESULTING IN OIL DRIPS. (NEW ROCKER COVER GASKETS WOULD BE A VERY CHEAP AND EASY FIX AND I HAVE THE ORIGINAL ALLOY ROCKER COVERS, THAT PERSONALLY, I WOULD RE-FIT BACK ON, FOR A DRIP-FREE SEAL.
2. COOLING FAN ACTIVATION SWITCH FAILED, SO IVE WIRED IT TO A MANUAL SWITCH, WHICH IS ACTUALLY BETTER (FOR INFO: THE ENGINE RUNS AT EXACTLY THE MANUFACTURERS QUOTED TEMPERATURE AND OIL PRESSURE TOO!)
4. THERE IS A SLIGHT, HESITANT MISFIRE AT MOTORWAY SPEEDS, WHICH I BELIEVE IS EITHER A SPARK PLUG OR, H.T. LEAD BREAKING DOWN (ITS UNIFORM, SO ITS ELECTRICAL/IGNITION, RATHER THAN FUELLING)
5. CENTRAL LOCKING PLAYS UP WHILST LOCKING FROM OUTSIDE, BUT LOCKS FROM INSIDE TOTALLY FINE.
