Here for sale is a pretty rare Mercedes 220b.
Although titled in the USA as a 1960 (hence why it is registered here as a 1960), it is in fact one of the earliest ones off the production line making it a 1959 model year with low serial number vin, body and engine number (001657, 001643 & 001440 respectively). One of only 3375 built in 1959.
I purchased this from the original family who bought it from the factory, drove around Europe and exported it to Laguna Beach California where it spent its life until last year when I imported it.
It has the original 2195cc M127 engine and 4 speed column change manual transmission which runs very smoothly and changes gear without issue.
The engine has just been fully serviced with new plugs, air filter, fuel filter, points, condenser, dist cap and rotor. The coolant has also recently been changed.
The body is extremely good for it’s age and the car was lightly restored back in the 80’s with a few pictures to show what was done. Although they are older repairs, they were done well and don’t require any attention.
There are a few small minor dents around the car but nothing that is serious or heavy.
It will require paint as it has not lasted well from when it was done in the 80’s.
All the polished trim is present and in very good condition for the year. The lower front and rear screen trims are with the car but need fitting. The grill has been dented but it could easily be repaired. The front bumper has a couple of parking dings and the rear is very good.
The interior is pretty good with the seats possibly having been recovered at some point. The headliner is undamaged. The dash has some sun damage and the door cards have had speakers fitted at some point, but another very good set of cards are supplied with the car.
There is a lot of paperwork that is with the car, service books, hand books, technical bulletins and personal notes of maintenance etc. All this can be seen in the pictures.
Also seen in the pictures, the car comes with a lot of new and used spare parts, some of which are quite rare and valuable which pretty much fill up the boot. Also in the boot is a car cover.
Although the car is registered in my name, I have only driven it around the yard at my work. I would suggest that before you take it on the road, it has a good go through to make sure it is 100% roadworthy. I would say it could really do with a new set of tyres as although they have good tread and don’t leak air, they are fairly old I will happily change them if the asking price is met.
It is MOT, Tax and ULEZ exempt, so ideal classic transport in and around London
