1957 Pontiac Super Chief 347cu (5.7L) V8. Fastest in it’s class in 1957 (c.290bhp). This was Pontiac’s version of the Chevrolet Bel Air as part of the same group. This is essentially a 3rd of the price of a Bel Air for much the same car and arguably quicker. Super rare worldwide, even non-running shells go for near 10k in the states, not sure if another in the UK.

Engine and gearbox rebuilt with new parts, had air shocks and upgraded carb too. Been in the UK since early 90s. Last owner (top guy) had it 5 years, serviced it yearly including the gearbox. This will drive anywhere all year round, has been all across the UK and is very reliable. It’s got some nice touches including a full recent exhaust system (sounds great, but not too much) done in the right materials to respect the age of the car and not just some typical modern stainless steel which don’t always sound right. It has a battery isolator switch in the boot and inside the cabin, so you can turn power off if not using it and return to if after weeks/months and it’ll start. Inside it has a modern Bluetooth stereo behind a hidden cover (as well as the original stereo) with upgraded speakers and amp in the rear. All the gauges, Speedo, wipers and lights etc work. Bench seats front and back, should seat 6. Put a new USA throw on the front seats which I think looks cool. Drives really nice and sounds good, always gets a lot of love. Had new wheels and tyres not long ago at cost of about 2k.
Exterior has age related marks, it’s not a garage or show queen, just a very usable fun car. So just age related marks and some patina with a few bits of rust which it wears well, but structurally fine. The coca cola trick would clean up the centre caps and bonnet lights if wanted, but I like how it looks. Worst bits are front quarters, but have 2 replacement wings that come with it (gold dust, worth a fortune). Chrome work removed a while ago, but do have some unopened chrome work that comes with it. Some other brand new spares like chain and brakes. All in probably 2k worth of spares, has some spare oil with it too. As you can see from the pictures, some tasteful stickers, few bits of pinstripe paintwork on the front and some custom paint on the back (previous owner was keen for people to know it was a Pontiac and not a Bel Air!). It attended a beach race event years ago where it had the number 307 written on, it’s faded, but still remains there faintly and looks kinda cool. I generally only drive it single occupancy, so only open the front two doors. As a result the back doors don’t see much action and have become quite stiff, but do work. Has the original 1957 Pontiac manuals which is a great read and tells you all about the cars features.
Great car, will never let you down and usable all year round. With some money put into the cosmetics, I think it shouldn’t be far off Bel Air money (20-30k). Represents really good value in my opinion, hard to get any running American classic under 10k now, let alone something from the 50s. Due to age it’s tax and MOT exempt and insurance is classic agreed value, less than £200. Eye catching fun car, reliable and all year usable. Only appreciating in value.
Only selling as I’m in the process of getting my bike licence and am looking for a bike next. Ideally want a straight sale.
Open to sensible offers. Delivery can be arranged at cost if distance is an issue. Bank transfer on collection preferred. Have more pictures and videos available. Any questions let me know.
